Well it was a funny old day in the Kingdom of Eswatini. Armed soldiers/police every few hundred metres... royal motorcades selfies with zebras... being interviewed for Taiwanese news... scoring irn bru at the superspar on the way home... and den beds #noahtime #scottishtilidie #eswatini #swaziriches #mlilwane
Makes friends wherever he goes. Never wants to come home. Was not happy when I removed him from this gogo. #swaziriches #mlungubaby
Beautiful autumn day in lubombo. #swaziriches

The sleep struggle continues... but then my quite awesome husband finishes work and presents me with this. #caffeineandjesus #swaziriches #13monthsin #zzzzz
30 minutes from my actual house. Today started out a bit cruddy... sleep deprivation is coming in one of those tsunami-like waves in our house this week. Kids on holiday. Homeschooling to catch up on. Baby not his good-natured self... possibly also sleep deprived. 🐘🦏🐍 By 9am I had decided the only answer was caffeine, Jesus and getting out the house. So obviously I loaded up the car with 3 months' worth of recycling, all 3 kids and headed for the collection point 45 minutes away. It's not like you can hit the soft play on a bad day or call up a mum friend for a play date. πŸ¦‚πŸ•ŠπŸ On the way back the kids asked to go to the game reserve (we literally drive through it on the way home). I like to say a surprise yes every now and then... so aided by our Β£60 annual pass (thanks for the birthday moolah Dad!) off we tootled. πŸ’πŸ₯πŸ¦… Now... this game reserve we like and frequent often for the above reasons. Often with our famous peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. But today was not an organised day so I paid Β£5 for chips for lunch and we sat by the waterhole hoping for rhino... but content with birds and butterflies. To be fair... my kids honestly love an impala and a heron almost as much as a lion. They'd have been happy with that, but i went for another surprise yes and we went off in search of more creatures, bumping up baked muddy roads under the hot autumn sun... πŸ†πŸ¦πŸ¦† And then an elephant. We have never seen elephant here. And then another. We laughed and marvelled at our good fortune. Except Micah who had gone to sleep with baby avocado (Elsie's doll) inexplicably perched on his shoulder. We stopped and wondered at their size, their splendour, their potential danger. We've seen elephant before in South Africa. But this was here, in our hometown. And there is just something magical about elephants. 🐘🐘🐘 The moral of the story ? I guess that no day is predictable here and you can end up in a very different place to how you started, very suddenly and without your own involvement. But also - look out for those surprise yeses. Grant them. Receive them. #swaziriches #hlane #elephant #surpriseyes #velvetashes #velvetashesafrica
